Under the leadership of Mr Denis Kadima, EISA Executive Director, the mission will consist of 15 members drawn from electoral commissions, civil society organisations (CSOs) and political parties from SADC countries (namely Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe), as well as individual experts from Guyana and Denmark. The 2005 Mauritius Elections will be the seventh electoral process where the assessment of the election will be based on the Principles for Election Management, Monitoring and Observation in the SADC region (PEMMO). The PEMMO is a regional initiative led jointly by EISA and the Electoral Commissions' Forum (ECF) of SADC countries and aimed at promoting best practices in election management. The Principles were drafted through a consultative process involving all the major electoral stakeholders in the SADC region. Discussions took place over a period of two years till the final document was adopted at a regional conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in November 2003. The PEMMO serves now as a benchmark against which elections are managed, observed, monitored and assessed in the SADC region. The Mission is expected to arrive in Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius, on Wednesday 22 June 2005 in order to hold a series of meetings with election stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission, the Electoral Supervisory Commission, political parties, CSOs and academics, ahead of the election day. The mission will remain in the country until Tuesday 05 July 2005 after observing the voting and counting processes, as well as post-polling activities. It is anticipated that the different teams of the Mission will be deployed through the main island and the island of Rodrigues. EISA is a regional non-governmental organisation established in 1996, with headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. It has field offices in Angola, Burundi, DRC and Mozambique. The vision of the organisation is to promote credible elections and democratic governance in Africa. The vision is executed through the organisational mission to strengthen electoral processes, good governance, human rights and democratic values through research, capacity building, advocacy and other targeted interventions. EISA services governments, electoral commissions, political parties, civil society organisations and other institutions operating in the democracy and governance fields in the SADC region and beyond. ---------- |Enquiries | ---------- Mr Martinho Chachiua Programme Manager, Elections and Political Processes Department Tel +27 11 482 5495 Fax +27 11 482 6163 Email martinho@eisa.org.za http://www.eisa.org.za/WEP/mauritius.htm From eisa-admin at lists.sn.apc.org Thu Jun 9 14:18:01 2005 From: eisa-admin at lists.sn.apc.org (eisa-admin@lists.sn.apc.org) Date: Tue Apr 17 18:14:34 2007 Subject: [Eisa] Mozambique Electoral Observer Mission report - 2004 Message-ID: <000001c56cea$86777550$5001a8c0@eisa.org.za> EISA sent an observer mission to last year's Mozambique Parliamentary and Presidential Elections (1-2 December 2004). ---------- |Enquiries | ---------- Mr Martinho Chachiua Programme Manager, Elections and Political Processes Department Tel +27 11 482 5495 Fax +27 11 482 6163 Email martinho@eisa.org.za http://www.eisa.org.za/WEP/mauritius.htm From eisa-admin at lists.sn.apc.org Thu Jun 9 14:18:01 2005 From: eisa-admin at lists.sn.apc.org (eisa-admin@lists.sn.apc.org) Date: Wed May 23 11:00:13 2007 Subject: [Eisa] Mozambique Electoral Observer Mission report - 2004 Message-ID: <000001c56cea$86777550$5001a8c0@eisa.org.za> EISA sent an observer mission to last year's Mozambique Parliamentary and Presidential Elections (1-2 December 2004).
