  NOT= E FROM THE EDITOR    FRE= E STORIES

As we were going to press, the SNO was license= d. This was the cherry on top of a deregulation pie that = had the entire press corps salivating for most of the month of September. With deregulation of voice ov= er IP ostensibly creating 200-odd potential voice servi= ces providers, the business case for the SNO is seemi= ngly on pretty shaky ground.
The October issue of Brainstorm has emerged as a telecommunications bumper issue, with three cover story articles and additional news articles. = ;
But the rest of the industry kept ticking over du= ring the month, so we have a couple of articles paying homage to the other sectors as well. One story lo= oks at how interactive television in South Africa is struggling to emerge from the ashes of its previo= us incarnation. Another investigates the modernisati= on of electoral procedures around the world.

Have a great month, and here=92s to a future of high-s= peed Internet access, low-cost voice calls and televis= ions that finally do what they=92re told.
