Outreach Practitioner

Job Description

Masibambane College is an Anglican Diocesan school initiated and 
supported by Education Africa and St John’s College. From Education 
Africa and Masibambane College the ECD Practitioner will be required to 
implement training workshops and follow-up support to the educators, 
staff and caregivers from our Social Architecture facilities and to 
other similar centres that will be identified.

In addition the Education Africa ECD practitioner will also impart 
training and follow-up support to Masibambane College preschool 
educators and support the aftercare facility for Aids Orphans and 
vulnerable children at Masibambane College.

The ECD practitioner will help make these facilities run as effectively 
as possible, and ensure that they are being maintained. This therefore 
will offer optimal care and education to the vulnerable children they serve.

The ECD practitioner will also assist in the running of workshops for 
other crèches/day care/preschool centres in and around Orange Farm and 
other areas as identified from time to time.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

* Minimum requirement is a degree in Early Childhood Development/ 
Education / Psychology
* Experience working in Informal Settlements or Rural areas doing 
community development and/ or outreach projects would be an advantage.
* Understanding of what is needed to facilitate optimal early childhood 
development in under resourced nursery school.
* Understanding of the stressors and needs faced by teachers teaching in 
under resourced areas.

Personal attributes

* Innovative and independent worker that is able to take initiative in 
projects relating to Early Childhood Development
* Must be willing to drive to remote areas and enjoy working in informal 
settlements and rural areas
* Sensitivity to working within systems
* Intrinsically motivated and committed to be an agent of change

Skills competency

* Able to workshop in a manner that is engaging, creative and experiential
* Able to write educational material geared to meet diverse needs in 
various informal settlements and nursery schools
* Able to work in a multi-lingual and multi-generational environment
* Able to train teachers of various linguistic levels and educational 
training
* A driver’s licence is essential as there will be a lot of travel 
between Education Africa, Masibambane College, other project areas and 
business. For this purpose a car will be supplied
* Need to be available to travel to other provinces and work on weekends 
from time to time.
* The ECD Practitioner will report to the Education Africa executives 
and will need to be able to work as a team member with all Education 
Africa staff.

Duties and Responsible for

* Meet with representatives from these crèches/day care/ preschools 
centres to run skills improvement workshops for them; (including 
curricula development; educational games, administration and management 
skills and so on).
* Monitor the representatives on continued bases who have received 
training at their facility as well as to observe and assist them to 
implement the skills they have learnt during workshops
* Working with business to support these centres and particularly the 
Education Africa donor who will be supporting this initiative.
* Supply written reports on activities and specific project reports.
* Write proposals to companies for further support in this project area.
* Should be available to support other Education Africa projects from 
time to time. Work and liaise with companies that support and to bring 
on companies that show interest in supporting these centres .
* Work with local and international universities to support our social 
architecture programme and further projects, where necessary. Work with 
local government that these centres fall under.
* The centre’s aim will be to develop access to preschools where ideas 
and resources can be shared and skills transferred.

Benefits and Remuneration

* R 12 000 before tax
