Finland has pledged 12 million Euros (R138 million) in development aid for
an Information Communication Technology roll out programme in South
Africa. The funding will go towards enhancing the delivery and
implementation of ICT infrastructure in the Limpopo and Northern Cape
provinces over the next three years. The programme aims to demonstrate the
opportunities that ICT can unlock in terms of accelerating social and
economic development at a provincial level.

Gender AIDS Forum
The trial of the men who stripped Lindi Sithole (name changed) because
she was wearing pants in Umlazi-Tsection last year, has been postponed
to 9-12 June 2008. Umlazi-Tsection has become notorious for incidents
such as this and women no longer wear pants in public for fear of such
attacks. Men in the community have banned from wearing pants by women.
The Commission on Gender Equality has instituted proceedings on behalf
of Sithole in the Equality Court.
